Butter.
I’m not kidding.
I’ve already blogged about how stupid and unhealthy a trans fat ban is in “Is Trans Fat Hysteria The Salem Witch Hunt Of Our Time” and “Ban Trans Fats, Increase Diabetes?”
But we’ve reached a new low with this one.
U.S. wholesale bakers have to take butter out of their products because butter contains a small amount of natural trans fat.
The butter is being replaced by processed fats like margarine and palm oil.
I thought it had already been proven that butter is healthier than margarine. So why the step backward?
Because the FDA requires any serving of food with half a gram or more of trans fat to be labelled. Even if the trans fat occurs naturally.
Companies like Starbucks don’t want to label their pastries or other products as containing trans fat. So butter is being replaced by processed fats that may be more unhealthy.
They’re doing this for our health.
