Got Bad Breath? Lose Weight…
Thinking about dieting after the holidays?
Well, if you’re overweight and you’ve got bad breath, you’ll want to lose weight to help with both problems.
According to Tel Aviv University researchers in the October 2007 Journal of Dental Research, the more extra pounds you carry, the more likely that you have bad breath.
The scientists also found evidence that drinking alcohol causes bad breath.
Isn’t this fun to discover at the height of the holiday party season?
The researchers don’t know exactly why overweight patients are more likely to have bad breath.
But they suggested that the diets of obese people may cause dry mouth. Or maybe obese people don’t take proper care of their mouths and their bodies.
I think the researchers should be careful of assuming that obese people have poor dental hygiene without some evidence to back it up. It sounds like the making of another stereotype.
Besides dry mouth and poor dental hygiene, bad breath can also be caused by your morning cup of coffee. Or it could be a sign of disease.
And now obesity may be a cause of bad breath. So there’s another reason to lose weight after the holidays.
