After an inital recall of 75,000 pounds of ground beef, United Food Group is recalling another 370,000 pounds due to “unspecified concerns” from the California State Department of Health Services.
The meat may be contaminated with E. coli - with at least 14 reported illnesses in the western U.S. from April 25th to May 18th.
No deaths have been reported. It appears that all patients have recovered.
The meat is both fresh and frozen. It has sell by dates from April 6th to April 20th and freeze by dates from April 23rd to May 7th.
The recalled products were sold under the brand names Basha’s, Inter-American Products, Inc., Miller Meat Company, Moran’s All Natural, Stater Bros., and possibly Trader Joe’s Butcher Shop.
The affected states are Arizona, California, Colorado, Idaho, Montana, Nevada, New Mexico, Oregon, Utah, Washington, and Wyoming.
I believe the grocery outlets where these products were sold include:
Albertson’s
Basha’s
Fry’s
Grocery Outlet
“R” Ranch Markets
Save-A-Lot
Save-Mart
Scolari’s Wholesale Markets
Smart and Final
Smith’s
Stater Bros.
Superior Warehouse
I don’t know if this is a complete list. The information appears to be changing.
If you have one of these recalled products, either throw it away or return it to the store where you bought it for a refund.
If you have questions about the recall, call United Food Group’s hot line at 1-800-325-4164.
I called the number and was referred to:
http://www.unitedfoodgrouprecall.com
I suggest you check the website for the latest information. Some of the telephone hot line information appeared to be outdated when I called.
With the changes going on in this recall, the information I’ve provided here may become outdated, too.
So again, if you live in any of the 11 states listed, please check the recall information at:
http://www.unitedfoodgrouprecall.com
I’d doublecheck the information by calling the hot line as well at
1-800-325-4164.
If you really want to be safe: if you live in one of those 11 states and you have ground beef, just throw it away. That’s what I’d do. Why take a chance on eating food that may become part of another expanded recall?
