A Surprising Risk From Exercising While You Diet

This one really did surprise me.

It’s the reason researchers now recommend that the more women exercise, the more they should eat to remain healthy.

Especially for younger women up to 32 years old.

A new study from Ohio University revealed that women can’t be sure they’re getting enough energy to fuel their exercise regimens while they’re dieting.

Most women think they’re okay as long as their menstrual cycle is normal. But that’s not enough.

Even your appetite isn’t a reliable way to tell if you’re getting enough calories when you exercise while dieting.

The problem is this: if you don’t get enough calories, you risk bone loss.

The researchers studied 2 groups of women with normal menstrual cycles and body fat. One group had women from 18 to 23 years old; the other women were ages 26 to 32.

While on a restrictive diet, the women exercised about 2 hours a day.

In each group, there was evidence that the lower energy availability from the diet impaired bone formation.

That means a higher risk of stress fractures and eventually, osteoporosis.

So if you’re dieting to lose weight, make sure you don’t exercise so much that you suffer bone loss.

Of course, the smartest course of action is to see your doctor before you start any new diet or exercise program.
