Are Allergen-Free Peanuts A Reality?

Dr. Mohamed Ahmedna, a researcher from North Carolina Agricultural and Technical State University, claims to have developed a simple process to make allergen-free peanuts.

Dr. Ahmedna is now refining the process to remove allergens from other foods.

I hope it’s true. But as someone who’s suffered from “call 9-1-1″ allergies for years, the evidence isn’t strong enough for me to believe it yet.

Obesity Stops Girls From Attending College

A negative self-image often causes obese girls to skip going to college.

In fact, they skip college twice as often as normal weight girls. The rate is even higher for non-whites, for obese girls whose parents didn’t go to college, and for heavy girls who attend high schools where obesity is uncommon.

Obesity May Be Fueling Rise In Esophageal Cancer

Obesity often causes a hiatal hernia where the upper part of the stomach slides above the diaphragm muscle into the chest and causes heartburn.

The heartburn comes from stomach acid flowing back through the opening in the diaphragm. When this condition becomes chronic, it’s known as acid reflux disease.

Left untreated, acid reflux disease can result in Barrett’s esophagus, which puts you at high risk for esophageal cancer.

Prescription Painkillers: The New Fix For Drug Abusers

Over 6 million Americans abuse prescription painkillers, which now cause more overdoses than heroin and cocaine combined.

Prescription painkillers are second only to marijuana in illegal drug use.

Many times, the addiction starts innocently enough. You may legitimately use painkillers after surgery or for chronic pain.

But it’s easy to get hooked on the sense of euphoria provided by the drugs.

As the July 4th arrest of Al Gore III showed, prescription drug abuse is growing among teenagers and college kids, too.
