Obesity Increases Severity of Asthma
As if you don’t have enough health risks if you’re overweight.
Now a new study finds that obese people suffer from persistent or severe persistent asthma much more than thin people.

If you love high-salt fast foods and frozen foods, you may get more than high blood pressure. New research suggests a high-salt diet may give you ulcers and gastric cancer, too.
Actually, it’s called the Office of Nutrition and Fitness.
But whatever you call it, New Jersey’s agency will begin operating in a few weeks. They intend to take action against obesity, not just talk about it.
Detox diets are fasting diets that supposedly flush the toxins out of your system, help you to lose weight, clear your complexion, and boost your immune system.
But nutrition experts warn there could be some serious side effects. And you may find yourself running to the bathroom a lot — especially if your diet relies heavily on laxatives.
It sounds like something to get excited about.
Functional foods have added ingredients to boost your immunity or improve your health or quality of life.

Women have more trouble controlling their LDL “bad” cholesterol levels than men.
The reason may be that doctors underestimate the risk of high cholesterol and heart disease for women. Also, doctors may not be treating high cholesterol as aggressively in women as in men.
Obesity may be associated with major eye diseases like cataracts, macular degeneration, glaucoma, and diabetic retinopathy.
Weight-related factors like high blood pressure, diabetes and lack of exercise are apparently what set these problems in motion.
Eating fruits and vegetables can help to prevent these conditions.
Foods with high levels of omega-3 fatty acids and dark green, leafy vegetables like spinach are especially helpful.
I had previously talked about the importance of certain nutrients for vision in “Low Fat Diets: The Hidden Dangers.”
Lutein, which is found in egg yolks and spinach, can reduce the risk of macular degeneration. This eye disease affects your central vision with symptoms such as blurred vision, straight lines appearing to be crooked, and small blind spots.
Zeaxanthin, which is found in corn and egg yolks, protects your retina from the damaging effects of light. This reduces your risk of developing cataracts or age-related macular degeneration.
Exercise can also help to lower your risk for macular degeneration.
So protecting your vision appears to be another reason to eat right, exercise, and lose weight.

Now the push is on to get world governments to fight high blood pressure — just as they’ve come together before to fight infectious diseases.
